Sweet Escape Bakery officially opened its doors Friday, October 30 at 8am. Styled after a French pâtisserie and decorated in a soft pink, Bayport’s newest eatery is a feast for the senses. Behind the colorful creations is owner Stephanie Cocozzelli who began baking 5 years ago after taking over her father’s deli where her baked goods became an instant favorite for locals and gradually amassed a loyal online following. With a lack of room to devote to the ever increasing orders, Cocozzelli and her husband realized they had outgrown their previous space and started looking for the right location to expand. When the opportunity to move to Bayport arose in August, they eagerly secured the building, In a truly impressive fashion, they managed to complete the renovation in under 3 months.
Among the most popular items are French macarons, the delicate and often finicky meringue-based sandwich cookie, that are her signature confection. “Macarons are my favorite,” gushed Emma Young, 16 of Bayport, “and the ones Sweet Escape makes are delicious!” Young highly recommends the Nutella flavored, which are known to sell out before the day is done. Other crowd pleasers include fruity pebbles, s’mores, and pistachio. If you’re wandering in for a morning caffeine fix, Sweet Escape offers Sail Away Cold Brew, a Long Island based nitro coffee operation on tap.
Looking toward the future, Sweet Escape is planning to offer baking workshops and cupcake decorating parties for those who want to try their hand at creating their own delicacies. As the holidays approach, keep a look out for the 12 flavors of Christmas macarons box, which are sure to make a sweet gift.
